Qantas plans to launch non-stop Sydney to New York flights from mid-2028, taking travellers to the Big Apple in around 18 hours without a stopover.

Part of Project Sunrise, the service will cut more than three hours off total travel time compared with current one-stop options, according to Qantas. Tickets for the inaugural flight are expected to go on sale from August 2027.

A simpler journey for business travellers

Qantas currently flies between Sydney and New York via Auckland. The planned non-stop service will remove that connection, offering business travellers less time in transit and a simpler itinerary.

Flights will use specially configured Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft with 238 seats across four cabins and a dedicated Wellbeing Zone. New York will be the second Project Sunrise route, following Sydney–London, scheduled to begin in October 2027.

When can you book?

Ticket sales are expected from August 2027 for the inaugural service, ahead of the planned mid-2028 launch. Dates and service details may change.
